Another happy Glacier rider!

John M., from beautiful Nova Scoatia wrote to tell us how much he is loving his new Glacier.

“WOW! I was expecting a nice bike , but you guys do a great job, over the top!!

It’s nice to see composites done well, I have been working in the Aerospace Composite field for the past 20 years (Director of Technical Services for CHC Composites) and I certainly appreciate your work! I will be sure and show your bike off at every chance I get.

Just wanted to drop you a quick email about a ride from this past weekend! Not too long (52 km) but well worth the ride! It was down by Peggy’s Cove. It was flat calm, sunny and about 18C. This is just one of 20 or 30 picturesque rides in this neck of the woods.

Your bike is working great, I had to adjust the tension about a 1/4 turn on the rear derailleur cable and that is it!.... it rides like a dream and powers up the hills like a rocket, it makes it easy for me to keep up with veterans. I look forward to many more rides (I currently have about 250 km on the bike). As long as the cold weather holds off I will be out there.”

Thanks John; we love hearing from Glacier riders! Contact us with the story of your Glacier.

Glacier riders take first & third at OCA Provincial Championships

Glacier Bikes is proud to announce that the two riders supported through our development program have taken first and third place at the Ontario Cup Provincial Road Race Championships held at Elliott Lake on Aug 23 and 24, 2008. Steven Noble rode to victory in the men’s cadet class, completing the 63.6km course in 1h44.’28. Cayley Brooks took third in her class, completing the same course in 2h15.’01.

Glacier is extremely proud of both riders overall standings for the season. Noble, a mountain bike racer at heart, achieved an amazing 10th overall in the province despite only attending 3 out of 12 point events in the road category. Brooks maintained her third place standing throughout the season, also only being able to attend 3 out of 12 events.

We are confident that both riders will excel to the top of their categories and be an asset to the future of cycling in this country, whether it is in mountain biking or on the road. Glacier is honoured to have been a part of their development.

Here is to 2009.

Glacier offers headset swap on 2008-2009 bikes

If you bought a 2008-2009 Glacier between April 1, 2008 and July 22, 2008, your bike came equipped with a Cane Creek International Standard (IS) headset. This headset uses a 41 mm diameter while Glacier frames are sized for the Campagnolo IS headset (41.8 mm). Both standards use a 45 degree outer contact angle so either headset will work in a Campy standard frame like the Glacier Ice Storm2 with no risk of damage to the frame or fork.

Some riders prefer the Cane Creek IS because it offers a slightly lower stack height but others are concerned about the apparent gap of a Cane Creek IS headset in a Campy IS frame. The gap is apparent only and primarily a function of the paint layer over the raw carbon. To reiterate: There is no risk of damage to your frame or fork using the Cane Creek IS headset. Nevertheless, for riders who wish, Glacier is offering to replace any Cane Creek IS headset on frames so equipped with a Campy IS headset. Simply take your bike to your local bike shop and have them contact Glacier Bikes to arrange the headset swap.

Glacier Bikes will be using Campy IS headsets on all its frames from this date forward. If you have the Cane Creek standard headset it is not necessary to replace it with a Campy IS headset. The difference is cosmetic only and if you choose to replace your headset in the future, rest assured you can use either size (41.0 or 41.8 mm), unlike other frames that are sized for the Cane Creek IS only.

If you have any questions or concerns about headset sizing on your Glacier, please feel free to contact Glacier Bikes directly.

Glacier sponsors Cayley Brooks

Glacier is proud to announce their support for Ontario rider, Cayley Brooks. Cayley had a successful racing career in 2007, in both mountain bike and road racing, on the Ontario Cup circuit. 2008 looks to be even more promising for her. Cayley so impressed Glacier Bikes with her attitude, hard work and community minded philosophy, that we had no problem helping her in her budding racing career with an Ultegra equipped Ice Storm2.

Cayley is currently spending her March break down south to train for the upcoming season. We will keep you posted on her accomplishments and stories, so visit often for more information.

At their request we have eliminated their personal information but click on these images to read about "J" and how his Glacier got him back on a bike after a horrific car crash - as well as how it has replaced his $5700 Masi as his bike of choice. They loved the smooth ride and handling of the Team Ice they reviewed. Their only gripe? They thought the finish was a bit "sombre". That was before we released our new "Frozen Plasma" finish (See press release above). Read the review yourself in the original french or translated to english.
